I higher prescribed glasses can damage your eyesight, why continue to give a higher prescription?
My glasses prescription is -11.50 and my contact lens is -10.00. ive worn glasses all the time sice I was 10 Although I started wearing glasses when I was 7. Everytime I had to go back for a check up my prescription was raised. Im convinced that it is a higher prescription that has caused the damage im only 27 and petrified ill go blind.
Why has no reserch ever gone into Dr william bates method of restoring eye sight. This method consists of various methods which help to relax and teach the eye to see properly again. There are books but if I had a teacher it would be of graet help. Yet I asked one eye doctor and his response was He belived that eyes can be damaged by glasses. But his thought on me was that im so short sighted it looks as though that is all there is to it. So why not prescribe a lower lens to walk around the house in and teach my eyes to work on their own. Eye health these days seems to almost be taken for granted by eye doctors.

I have peculiar eyes too; my left is +3.75, my right is -1.25. And I have a stigmatism.
My advice is to seek more professional opinions; you will then begin to build a more accurate picture of which course of action is best. You shouldn't have to pay much for it, if at all, as you could book an eye test with different opticians and use the opportunity to ask the questions you want answered.
But I would be very sceptical of any advice I got from Yahoo Answers on something as complex as your case.
