Are small business gov grants available for and antique store?

Are gov small business loans a farce? I want to open an antique store complete with pieces from local historical sites. Can someone please end my confusion or illusions?

Grants--no
loans--yes

The truth is somewhere between a farce and your illusions. The government does not give out free money to anyone that wants to start a business. However if you qualify there are programs available.

You should start by writing a well thought out business plan. There are resources available on the web and in the library that will help you write the plan.

Once you have a plan you should look into a Small Business Administration 7(a) loan program or contact your states economic development organization to see if your state has any loan programs. www.sba.gov

Generally grants are not available for start-up capital. Don't let someone sell you books, videos, or seminars that will give you the secret of obtaining government grants. They will not give you good information.
