Does the media dislike the Red Wings?
I am still a bit of a novice at being a sports fan, having lost a piece of my heart to the Red Wings at about the time I gained bifocals, but do I detect a bias in the media?
Sure enough, there's lots of attention for the likes of Kane and Toews, who have won back the Chicago folk, and Sid and Alex are getting their place in the sun... all deservedly. But ever since I began paying attention (around the time we got knocked out of the Cup by Edmonton), it's seemed that nobody wants to talk about My Boys. Even Mike Babcock has noticed!
Is it just me being sensitive? After a thrilling game between the Stars and Sharks last night, plus a bit of analysis on how the rest of the tournament was going, we got 'so far it's all Detroit' from the Versus team about the series against Colorado.
I think your concerns are legitimate. But, what we need to remember is that the Red Wings (also "MY" team) had their day in the sun. For years they were the big talk of the league. However, this year they quietly had the best record in hockey...and not until they started losing (in February-March) did people take notice.
I like to say that they are the prefect team for Nick Lidstrom to be captain of. He is quiet and unassuming, and so has the team's rise this year.
It has also become very popular to smash winners. If you think about it, they are easy to hate- they keep winning, they prove people wrong (too old? no goaltending?) and they don't have any real goons for people to hate the team becase of (i.e. Pronger/Ducks, Avery/Rangers, etc.)
I couldn't care less about the media. It gives me more reason to wear my red and white proudly.
